Abstract: The adoption and use of Electronic Information Systems (EIRs) requires strategic policy implementation for sustainable and effective EIRs utilisation in academic libraries. Sustainability is a critical factor to consider when formulating policy strategies for the implementation of EIRs in academic libraries around the world. A good policy without sustainability is futile, discouraging, and even unattractive. This study is an exploration of policy strategies for the implementation and sustainability of EIRs in academic libraries in North-Central, Nigeria. This study employs a qualitative methodology to highlight factors that may influence the implementation of policy strategies that can be sustainable for the use of EIRs by academic libraries in Nigeria. Findings revealed that there were adequate policies to impact EIR services, data indicated that strategic planning and policy are impactful for sustainable EIR services among other things. Surprisingly, the strategic policy for sustainable EIRs in academic libraries in Nigeria is lacking, and there were no indications of clear policies to sustain the provision of EIRs services. All of these require adequate planning and strategic policy attention, to ensure the implementation of policies that will support sustainable EIRs services in Nigerian university libraries.

Abstract: This paper aims at improving the current electronic learning system by integrating ontology based semantic web into the online learning platform. The system applies semantic web and ontology technology to e-learning environment, thereby providing customized learning based on learners’ need. With this system, learners can access the system anytime, anyplace, thus, they can study at their own pace using learning resources uploaded by instructors. The system also provides facilities such as semantic web search engine and ontology repository which houses knowledge data and their meta data through which students can engage on personalized learning. Through the search engine provided, the learner semantically searches the repository for the required learning resources. The results obtained from the search is filtered according to the learner’s predefined preference by matching them with the learner’s profile. After the filtering, the results that most appropriately satisfy the user’s academic need is presented to the learner. This work will help to encourage self-directed learning as well as saves the students, the time wasted in surfing the network for learning resources, as it narrows the search to specified learner’s preferences. The system will be beneficial to schools and other learning institutions.

Abstract: Domestic violence (DV) has always been a hot topic in Nigeria. Women and minors have suffered varying degrees of physical, emotional and mental abuse in the hands of friends, relations, family and spouses in past. Therefore, this study examined the role library and information science could play in curbing this menace in Awka Metropolis as a broad objective, accompanied by three specific objectives. The study adopted a survey research design, with a population of 210 and a sample size of 136, arrived at using Krejcie and Morgan formula. The data collection instrument was a structured questionnaire, and the analysis was carried out using descriptive and inferential statistics. The hypothesis formulated was tested at 5% level of significance. The findings revealed that there was a statistically significant relationship existing between information dissemination and domestic violence (DV) reported cases (r = .908 p-value < .05). The study, therefore, concluded that library and information science plays a major role in the reduction of incidence of domestic violence in Awka Metropolis. It was recommended among other things that education of people about fundamental human rights of others should be championed by various private and public libraries so that they can be bold enough to report abuse by others, and that human rights practices need to be inculcated into various school curriculums to forestall the further perpetration of acts considered domestic violence in Awka metropolis.

Abstract: The colossal impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic which has continued to ravage the global community has raised many questions especially with the new realities the post COVID-19 era has to offer. This is of utmost importance especially in the current era where there is a shift and readjustment from the former methods of doing things to the new methods which has been christened the new normal. These realities are of utmost importance to libraries as one of the many social institutions and also to librarians who have the duty of meeting the ever dynamic information needs of their patrons. The modalities, strategies and challenges to achieve this has not ceased to be a source of worry to many librarians and other information professionals who deal with the handling, management and dissemination of information. By using data obtained from secondary sources, this paper seeks to highlight the many challenges faced by many libraries in their quest to serve their clients in the new era. It also highlights the importance of acquiring additional skills to librarians. This is toward reducing redundancy and to promote effective and efficient service delivery which are necessary ingredients for maximal productivity in the new era.
